Organizational Profile

Regent Park Community Health Centre (RPCHC), founded by area residents in 1973, is located in Canada's oldest and largest public housing community. The Health Centre serves a diverse population of approximately 26,000 with 15-20,000 of these people living in subsidized housing (Moss Park, Regent Park North and South, and 220 Oak Street) and an unknown number of people who are underhoused and homeless.

The Health Centre uses an integrated approach to health care. We emphasize a shift in health care from illness to health promotion and disease prevention in our health care system. We realize that good health care involves more than going to the doctor. Therefore, we develop a wide range of integrated health and social services to address the complex needs and challenges of the residents of the area. We provide high quality physician, nursing, social work and community development services. Through our programs, people living in the community participate in a whole range of activities that address the factors in their lives that influence health: economics, employment, education, housing, and family and community support.

The general direction of the Health Centre comes from its Mission which emphasizes health promotion and disease prevention with the following components: Community Ownership; Accessible Care; Advocacy; and Comprehensive Care.

The Health Centre is supported by the:
