Youth Health Action Project

The Youth Health Action Project (YHAP) was created as a sub-group of the Health Access Project (HAP) to investigate youth specific health and health access needs in a changing Regent Park. Eleven youth developed and delivered the project in partnership with HAP staff. From January to April of 2006 these youth were engaged in learning activities related to health care systems, research methodologies, and leadership and presentation skills which informed them on how to develop data collection tools, carry out research, analyze results and conduct evaluations. 56 youth between the age of 12 to 26 responded to the survey and 54 participated in focus groups addressing inequities in access to health care and making healthy life choices. The data collected from the focus groups and the survey is presented together in the report.
