The Downtown East Safe Opioid Supply Program (DEC-SOS)

SOS (Safe Opioid Supply)

The Safe Opioid Supply Program is a joint partnership with our clinical team.  SOS aims to reduce and prevent opioid overdoses by replacing unpredictable street opioid supply with prescription medications like Kadian and Dilaudid.  This harm reduction program does not require people to be abstinent from street drugs, all who use opioids can benefit from this program.  Priority access is being given to homeless people and those who are at high risk and are not well connected to existing health and social services. In addition to providing a safer supply of opioids, the SOS provides opportunities for clients to access a range of program options and wraparound services.  SOS operates as a collaborative program across three community organizations: Street Health, Regent Park CHC, and South Riverdale CHC. All programs are funded by Health Canada’s Substance Use and Addictions Program (SUAP).  SOS is staffed by Nurse Practitioner, Community Health Worker and a Registered Nurse.

Harm Reduction at Sheltering Sites (iPHARE)

A City funded pilot that will run until March 2022. iPHARE was developed in response to Toronto’s substantial rise in fatal opioid overdoses and shelter related deaths which increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.

RPCHC has two full time Community Health Workers working in partner sites. iPHARE’s primary role is to implement onsite harm reduction services in collaboration with shelter partners, to increase overall harm reduction capacities and overdose preparedness across the sector, decrease stigmas affiliated with substance use and link community members to clinical care and social supports.

What’s the deal with Women’s Day?

Every Thursday the CTS services are reserved for women, trans and non-binary individuals only. The CTS recognizes that individuals need safe spaces to use drugs and want to support everyone in meeting their needs.

For everyone’s safety and comfort we use the following guidelines to share the space:

  • Women, trans and non-binary individuals have priority access to the injection room all- day
  • Women, trans and non-binary individuals who are in the space already will not be asked to share the space with male-identified individuals at any time of the day
  • Women, trans and non-binary individuals who want to be accompanied in the injection space by a male friend or partner for support or injection assistance can ask the staff about availability
